| BIOGRAPHY |
Suwan Jayasinghe was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka. He started his academic career in the United Kingdom at Brunel University where he received his first and second degrees in Mechanical Engineering. Subsequently he joined Queen Mary College, University of London, where he studied Materials Sciences and earned his PhD. In January 2005 he instigated the BioPhysics Group, which is now based in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at University College London. His group has made several discoveries of significance for tissue engineering and regenerative or therapeutic biology and medicine. These pioneering investigations are currently undergoing intensive exploration for their possible exploitation in a clinical setting.

Bio-electrosprays and cell electrospinning:novel direct strategies for tissue engineering and regenerative biology/medicine
|
| DESCRIPTION |
|
There exist many approaches to tissue engineering biologically viable microenvironments for replacement and repair. In recent years jet-based approaches have demonstrated great advances for directly handling living cells from which viable constructs are conceived. This talk will elucidate the many approaches for tissue engineering by means of jets, with particular emphasis on bio-electrosprays and cell electrospinning. Both methods have recently demonstrated some promising results with tremendous implications for biomedical science.
