| BIOGRAPHY |
Dr. Darren Bhattachary is a Board Director and Head of the Qualitative Unit at the British Market Research Bureau (BMRB), one of the largest market research agencies in the UK. He has a wealth of experience in the use of deliberative and communication processes to inform science policy. He has worked with the Royal Society, the Office for Science and Innovation, the research councils and a host of government departments on engagement activities and strategies. He has also worked in consultancies in the private sector and academia, specialising in the use of public and stakeholder engagement for organisational strategy. Dr. Bhattachary holds a PhD in Deliberative processes for policy-making from UCL, and has first degrees in the sciences.

Stem cells: implications of public and stakeholders' views on the science and ethics.

This talk examines findings from the largest ever public dialogue on stem cell research in the UK. Supported by the Government's Sciencewise programme and commissioned by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and the Medical Research Council (MRC), the project captures the opinion, aspirations and ambitions of 200 members of the public on the science and ethics of stem cell research, as well as canvassing the views of nearly 50 stakeholders from fields such as science, medicine, industry, ethics and religion.
